Reminder re: After-School Activities
Please remember that once an after-school activity is complete, for example Homework Club, sports, Art Club, etc., students are no longer supervised and must, for safety reasons, leave the school building either to walk home, catch the OC Transpo bus, or wait on a ride. Your co-operation in reminding your son/daughter of this is greatly appreciated.

Sparky Pays Us a Visit
On Tuesday, players from the Ottawa Fury paid us a visit to promote soccer and their team in general. Prizes were given to students as well as free magnets and small soccer balls. Players signed autographs and shared their sport experiences with students. All in all it was a very fun time. Sparky, the mascot, also paid me a surprise visit in my office.

Post-Christmas Activities
With Christmas now behind us, our administration and Student Services department have already begun the transition schedule for our new grade 6’s coming to the school, as well as preparing the details for everyone to move to St. Patrick’s High School.  We put a great deal of effort into this process to ensure that our students are in a comfortable position as they move to new schools. Keep track of our key dates on the calendar that populates at the bottom of the blog page.

My Classroom Visits
What makes me extremely happy in this role is getting into classrooms to see all the exciting things that students and teachers are doing here at SPI. Pictured below is a bridge made in Ms. Montgomery's science class that is holding over 30 pounds and still not breaking. Incredible! I wonder if the group of students who made this are considering engineering as a career?

St. Patrick's Intermediate Blog January 8 to 12

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a Happy New Year to all of you in our St. Patrick’s community.  I hope that the Christmas holidays provided you with an opportunity to relax and spend some time with family and friends.  All of us at St. Patrick's look forward to working with our stakeholders in 2018 and to transitioning over to St. Pat's High School in September.

St. Patrick’s Christmas Hampers
We recognize that our strength as a school community can be seen when we work together with good intentions in mind.  This quality was at the forefront of our Christmas Hamper initiative this December. All of our grade 7 and 8 classes, as well as staff and members of our School Council, came together to contribute Christmas packages for those in our community who might not otherwise have food and gifts during the holidays.  The amount of goods contributed was overwhelming.  A big thank you to all who participated in any way they could.

Christmas Concert
Our Band and Glee Club held a well-attended Christmas Concert at St. Patrick's High School on the Wednesday evening prior to the Break. Under the direction of teacher Mary Reilly, the students did an awesome job as usual, much to the delight of the audience. We have such a strong music program at St. Pat's Intermediate that it is so nice to perform for others from time-to-time to showcase all the wonderful talent we have here.

Getting Into the Christmas Spirit
All of our classes really got into the Christmas spirit this year by taking part in a variety of activities.  Below are photos of Ms. Pelisek's class taking part in some festive food sampling as well as a celebration of the making of a Jesse Tree.  Although Christmas is now over, it will long be remembered by many in our wonderful community.
